U.S. FDA issues GRAS No Objection Letter for BESTEVIA® Reb D Stevia Leaf Sweetener

RANCHO SANTA MARGARITA, Calif. and WESTCHESTER, Ill., Nov. 16, 2017 /PRNewswire/ — SweeGen, Inc., a nature-based sweetener company, and Ingredion Incorporated, a leading global provider of ingredient solutions to diversified industries, jointly announced that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued a GRAS (Generally Recognized As Safe) No Objection Letter for BESTEVIA® Rebaudioside D stevia leaf sweetener for use as a general-purpose, non-nutritive sweetener for foods and beverages.

 BESTEVIA Reb D, SweeGen’s non-caloric, high-purity stevia sweetener with a clean, sugar-like taste, is produced from the stevia leaf. The manufacturing process, ingredient composition and other factors were provided to the FDA in GRAS notice No. 715. The FDA acknowledged in a letter dated Oct. 24, 2017 that it evaluated the application and has no further questions regarding the conclusion that BESTEVIA Reb D is GRAS under its intended conditions of use.

RANCHO SANTA MARGARITA, Calif. and WESTCHESTER, Ill., Nov. 1, 2017 /PRNewswire/ — SweeGen, a nature-based sweetener company, and Ingredion Incorporated, a leading global provider of ingredient solutions to diversified industries, announced today that the Federal Commission for Protection Against Health Risks (COFEPRIS), led by Julio Sánchez y Tepoz, has approved SweeGen’s next-generation Reb M sweetener derived from the stevia leaf for use in food and beverage categories already approved for steviol glycosides.

This follows a review of the composition and manufacturing process of SweeGen’s Reb M stevia leaf sweetener, with documentation submitted to the organization earlier this year.

Reb M stevia leaf sweetener brings a clean sweetness from the stevia leaf, a great sugar-like taste and no bitter aftertaste. It can be used in a variety of applications such as beverages, dairy, bakery, table-top sweeteners, confectionary as well as nutritional food and beverages.

In addition, the company also confirmed that the GRAS dossier for BESTEVIA™ Reb-D has been submitted voluntarily to the FDA for review. Based on current FDA guidelines it is estimated that SweeGen may receive the FDA’s Letter of No Objection by December, 2017 or early 2018. SweeGen’s Bestevia™ Reb-M welcomed by leading Chinese energy drink company

After successfully completing all product trials in March 2017, the customer decided to accelerate the introduction of Bestevia™ Reb-M sweetener into the current production runs to meet its planned product launch later this year.

SweeGen’s BESTEVIA™ Reb-M sweetener is a non-caloric and high purity stevia sweetener with a clean, sweet, sugar-like taste. Starting with the stevia leaf, a proprietary production pathway is used to produce the stevia Reb M sweetener. BESTEVIA™ Reb-M, SweeGen’s non-caloric and high purity stevia sweetener with a clean, sweet sugar-like taste, is produced from the stevia leaf. In a letter from the FDA dated Feb. 17, 2017, the agency acknowledged that it reviewed the application and has no further questions regarding the documentation so submitted related to the safety of the ingredient.

Ingredion and SweeGen, Inc. Announce Agreement for Ingredion to Distribute SweeGen’s Stevia Sweeteners

WESTCHESTER, Ill., December 1, 2016

Ingredion Incorporated, a leading global provider of ingredient solutions to diversified industries, has entered into an agreement with SweeGen, Inc., a company dedicated to the development and manufacture of stevia-based sweeteners, to be SweeGen’s exclusive global distributor of the company’s novel, nature-based stevia sweeteners in all markets except China.
